It’s important to note that, in the state of Washington, valid ESA letters are issued by a licensed mental health professional (LMHP).
If you have an animal that has been prescribed to you by your provider, we’ll need the documentation that verifies their status as your companion animal. This documentation is referred to as an ESA Letter. While your provider will know what to include in the letter, it’s important that it:
Has been issued within the last 12 months
States the name of the individual to which the animal is prescribed
Specifies the animal (preferably by name, but at least by type) and, if there is more than one ESA, highlights how their support differs from one another.
Includes details for the prescribing professional
